Lubbock

We had a great trip to Texas. It was our first time to drive there without Greg - but it wasn't just me the whole time. It was so nice to have my mom fly up to ride down with us. And on the way back, the boys and I were able to meet Greg in Raton (who had been working in New Mexico that week) and the 4 of us headed home in 2 cars (which meant the boys could be split up, as well). It was a long drive and I'm concerned about how sleepy I get when I drive long distances, so I don't know I will do it again by myself.

The trip was totally worth it for the boys to spend time with their cousins. The four of them adore each other so much and it is great to see them have so much fun together. The top picture is of the 4 of them with their superhero creations (to include Luke and Ryan's superhero faces). Olivia and Luke wanted to turn their friends (Kitty Meow Meow and Teddy) into superheroes. When they were done, Ryan wanted to make Bear a superhero costume and Jacob drew a couple of superheroes of his own.

It was incredibly hot when we were there. I think the hottest it got was 112 - which is way above average for Lubbock in the summer (it is usually hot, but not that hot). As a result, we did a lot of stuff to stay cool. The kids had a great time playing with water guns one evening.

I like this one below of Ryan cornering Luke with his water gun.

We also went to the pool a couple of times. The first day was to a semi-water park that has been in Lubbock for many years but none of us had been to before. The kids had a great time and it was worth it to take them. We went to the pool later in the week to the neighborhood pool that my family was members of when we lived in Lubbock in the early 80s. Conny and I loved that it was still there and looks much the same as it did 25 years ago.

These 2 are the best of friends. Olivia and Luke are very similar in personality and they have very similar interests. We often find the 2 of them somewhere in the house by themselves creating some sort of project.

Ryan loved this little water slide. He is a better swimmer than Luke, but he is not as fearless.

Here is my brave baby on a big waterslide all by himself. He and Olivia climbed the 4 stories all by themselves and Luke didn't hesitate for a second to go up with all of the big kids and come down the slide by himself.

Much of the week resolved around superheroes - the boys have been on a superhero kick lately.

Luke wore this self-made outfit to the store with me one afternoon.

Ryan created his own outfit out of Zoobe toys and he completed his outfit by adding 2 utility belts attached to his shorts with butterfly clips.

We had a wonderful dinner one evening with Aunt Jane and Uncle Charlie - two of my most favorite people in the world.

And a trip to Lubbock means that Ryan can continue his complete love affair with Lucy. He adores this dog (a little too much at times) and he was thrilled to help Nana give her a bath.

Lastly, a video of the boys playing Star Wars Light Sabers with Conny's I-Phone and my Droid phone. Each phone had a Jedi App that allowed the kids to pick their own Star Wars character, music and light saber. They then chased each other around the house while the phones made the light saber noises - a much better way to Jedi fight each other than with real swords.

It was a great trip and we are looking forward to having Aunt Conny, Jacob and Olivia visit us in Colorado next week. We are planning on going camping, horseback riding, a trip to Water World and various other fun stuff.
