Vacation: Part Two

The main inspiration for our vacation was to take the boys on the Durango-Silverton Railroad. Greg and I both rode on it as children and we knew our transportation loving boys would love it. They have been talking about riding the train in the mountains for weeks and we had to reassure them that we were going to ride the train from the moment that we left our house on Saturday until we got on board on Tuesday. I had not realized how long it was going to be - the total trip took about 9 hours. Luke got a little restless at times and needed to walk around, but Ryan could have stayed on for another 2 days. We were all exhausted and filthy by the time we got back to the hotel (due to the ash of the engine coming through the windows), but we made some good memories. We headed home on Wednesday and were able to take a short hike up to a waterfall along the way.

Enjoying an ice cream break in Silverton.

I asked Luke to show me his demon face and this is the best he could do.

More rock throwing.

Ryan spent most of the train ride with his head sticking out of the window.

Naptime for Ryan.

Naptime for Luke.

Ryan claimed that his leg was hurting (complete with a limp) and got to ride on Greg's shoulders to the top of the waterfall.

On the way up.

Almost at the top - we went up a little farther and the boys got to throw more rocks into a river/stream.

Conny and her kids are coming tomorrow, so I'll lots to post of the boys and their cousins this next week.
